About Turing
Turing is an AI agent company founded in Seoul in 2018. We make GPAI, an AI agent for university students, and Mathking, a math app for students in Korea.
From Mathking to GPAI
Our first product was a math app for high school students in Korea. Mathking launched in 2021 with handwriting recognition and problem recommendations based on each student’s solving history, and has passed 2.2 million sign-ups.
Along the way we wrote more than 100,000 math problems and, by 2022, had collected over 20 million solving records. With that data we launched GPAI, an AI agent for university students, in August 2025.
GPAI started with problem solving for STEM students and opened to every major in September 2026. In its first year it passed 1.5 million sign-ups, and students at 415 U.S. universities, including MIT, Stanford and Harvard, use it.
Why our first product was in math
Most people can speak a language reasonably well, but few are good at math. The harder a task is for people, the more an hour of it is worth, and the larger the effect on an industry when AI takes it on. Mathking, our first product, grew out of that reasoning.
Math also asks something different of AI.
“A language model can give ten different answers to the same question, and in writing we call that creativity. In math, the same problem always needs the same answer. The creativity of general-purpose language models works against them in math.”
